More than 45 years ago, I was introduced to the first company to encapsulate herbs — Nature’s Sunshine Products.

I was not immediately convinced. In fact, I was skeptical.  After all, herbs were anything but mainstream, and I associated them with witchcraft.

A dear nurse challenged me to look up the word “herbs” in the King James Bible. When I did, I discovered that herbs are referenced throughout Scripture for both food and healing. As I read the account of King Hezekiah, Isaiah placing a poultice of figs on his boil, and his consequential healing,  I remember thinking, “If it’s good enough for God, it’s good enough for me.”

That moment began my lifelong pursuit of learning about herbs.

A 45-Year Commitment to Prevention

Since that time, I have relied primarily on herbs rather than pharmaceuticals. I raised my children using liquid herbal forms, later transitioning them to capsules as they matured. I have continued this practice personally for decades.

Prevention has always been my guiding principle. While none of us can prevent every health challenge or life surprise, cultivating a preventative mindset has served me well, even when life has altered my physiology in unexpected ways.
